John Cena took awards season by storm, making his presence felt as he appeared on stage at the Oscars ceremony on Sunday — and was completely in the nude. Or so it seemed.
The star of ‘Argylle’ and semi-retired WWE wrestler appeared to leave very little to the imagination, shocking the audience in person and at home as he walked onto the stage to wearing little more than a smile and a carefully placed envelope.
Cena certainly looked naked. However, it has been revealed that safety precautions were in place to make sure that audiences couldn’t see more of the star than intended.
In reality, per Daily Mail, John Cena was wearing a flesh-coloured covering (obscured by the envelope) to protect his privacy.
Cena was on stage to present the award for ‘Best Costume Design’ — won by ‘Poor Things’ costume designer Holly Waddington — and drew a huge laugh from the audience. The moment was a homage to an infamous streaker, who took to the stage during the 1974 Oscars Ceremony.
Had it not been for that covering preserving his modesty, who knows what could have happened? I’m not sure “You can’t see me!” would have worked here, John.
