Spotify is launching a whole new section of their app that will allow their subscribers to access more than 300,000 audiobook titles. Each book is available to purchase or preview via webpages outside of the app.
The newly purchased audiobooks will sit alongside your music in the library section whereas audiobooks that have not yet been published will show a lock over its play buttons to stop you from listening without paying. They will be available in the Spotify app on mobile and desktop.
They have introduced a new automatic bookmarking feature which will save your place in the story so you don’t have to worry about trying to find your place. Alongside a speed control method which allows you to change the audiobook to pace you prefer.
Spotify’s executive Nir Zicherman had his say in an interview following the announcement “We’re excited to launch audiobooks with a brand-new user interface that’s geared specifically towards listening to audiobooks and fits them seamlessly alongside the music and podcasts you already listen to and love.” Then added “This is just the beginning of Spotify’s audiobooks journey”.
Release Date
Released on the 20th September 2022, the new audiobook feature is limited to the users in the US for now but the company has claimed that that’s only the beginning of its journey. Spotify’s executives will be hoping that its expansion into audiobooks pushes them above its rival services such as Audible, Blinkist and Scribd.
Music, Podcasts and Audiobooks in the same shop is a huge step into the future for Spotify and a combination that has yet to be seen on this scale in the streaming industry.
